Thousands of Brazilian children are forced to live in terrible poverty and constant danger on the streets, after having left their homes in many cases because of violence or drug abuse by family members. For many, the only way of surviving is through petty trading and begging and- in the worst cases- they often resort to prostitution, crime and substance abuse.

These children need help of the most basic kind – shelter, food, basic health care, legal and social assistance and a supportive environment. Some of ABC's partner projects offer this much needed support and help bring these children off the street, by reuniting them with members of their family or finding new homes.

When in their new homes, these children and their family continue to receive support from the projects, including help with enrolling the children in school to ensure they have a real chance in the future and psychological support so that the conflicts or abuse of the past won't happen again.
