ABC partnership with EMBRATUR, Brazilian tourist board – "Brazil: love it & protect it"
At a special charity fundraising evening the Brazilian Minister of Tourism, Mr Walfrido dos Mares Guia, will be launching a unique new partnership between the Brazilian Tourist Board EMBRATUR and street children charity, Action for Brazil’s Children (ABC) Trust.
This year's charity Christmas Party, in aid of the ABC Trust and Task Brasil Trust, is a culmination of a fundraising drive to celebrate ABC Trust's first 10 years of operation, but also marks the start of a focused campaign to further protect poor and vulnerable Brazilian children. The ABC Trust with the Brazilian Tourist Board EMBRATUR will be working together to generate income and support from those travelling to Brazil, so that more projects can be funded that benefit street children and youth at risk.
The Brazilian Tourist Board has generously agreed to sponsor the launch event and produce promotional materials to be used throughout the Tourist Industry, and more widely on the campaign.

tough trekking for ABC
A mother-and-son team are on a mission to complete a trekking expedition in the mountains of Cuba in February 2006.
Gaby Ereira-Guyer and son Theo heard about the company Charity Challenge and decided this would be the perfect opportunity to visit one of the most amazing geographical places in the world – and to raise funds for the ABC Trust at the same time!
Gaby and Theo are aiming to raise £5,000 between them and the fundraising has already begun. They are paying for the cost of the trip themselves so ALL funds raised will come straight to the ABC Trust.
If you'd like to make a donation to Gaby and Theo's Cuban fundraiser, go to their Justgiving page.

Martin Tomkins wins Riffathon 2005
The Hammersmith Palais rocked on 24th July with an extraordinary level of guitar-playing for the Riffathon Live Final 2005, in aid of ABC Trust. All 10 finalists were ably supported by bands exclusively made up of Academy of Contemporary Music students and tutors.
Jimmy Page and Brian May were judging, together with Dan Hawkins from The Darkness. They were all blown away by the high standard of both the finalists and the backing bands, and the decision to find an ultimate winner proved extremely difficult.
Jordan Bracewell kicked off the afternoon of rock with a thumping rendition of Ace Of Spades – setting the tone for the evening.
Martin Tomkins from Kettering stole the show and first prize with his awe-inspiring performance of Led Zeppelin's 'Rock & Roll'. He couldn't get the grin off his face all night – especially after being presented with a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top – which he called a "dream guitar" – by Jimmy Page who said, "This guy without doubt played it [Rock n' Roll] better than I have done!".
Coming a close second and winning a Gibson Les Paul Standard was Stuart Colquhoun who came all the way from Glasgow to perform ZZ Top's 'Tush'.
And head banging his way to third prize was 10-year-old Henry Colborne, who amazed everyone with his pulsating version of 'Wishing Well' by Free.
We'd like to thank Ian Edwards and all the staff at the Academy of Contemporary Music for all the hard work they've put into making the Riffathon a success!

Brasilia: 25 Years of Photo-Journalism, by Ivaldo Cavalvante
The renowned Brazilian photographer and ABC Trust supporter Ivaldo Cavalcante has brought out a new book: 'Brasilia - 25 Years of Photo-Journalism'. The book features a foreword by Jimmy and Jimena Page:
"Ivaldo is an outstanding Brazilian photographer. In a powerful way he depicts the sad reality of the thousands of impoverished children living on Brazil's streets. He has proved to be a committed friend to the Action for Brazil’s Children (ABC) Trust which we founded ten years ago.
"For many years, Ivaldo's cutting-edge photographs have helped the ABC Trust to increase interest in the plight of Brazil's street children in the UK. We have always been very grateful for his photographic 'gifts' to the charity.
"ABC Trust is a UK-based charity helping the poorest and most vulnerable children in Brazil. The work of the ABC Trust is focused on how street children and youth at risk can be given the means to escape despair and homelessness. It provides shelter food and care together with education and training.
"It started life as a small soup kitchen in Bahia for impoverished children; now it has international status and works with over a dozen project partners in Brazil, helping 1,000 children every week. Other patrons include legendary footballer Pelé, Queen guitarist Brian May, musician Bebel Gilberto, film director Fernando Meirelles and Brazil's national team footballer Edu Gaspar.
"We are proud to be associated with Ivaldo and commend his outstanding work to a wider audience. We hope that it will further awareness and motivation to make lives better for some very poor Brazilian children."

Jeremy Irons becomes an ABC Trust patron
The ABC Trust is pleased to announce that Jeremy Irons has joined the ranks of our Patrons. Having agreed to present the BBC LifeLine appeal on behalf of the Trust, Jeremy said:
"With the current situation of third world poverty, which always seems to hit the children hardest, it is difficult to know where to start. ABC's initiative in Brazil has started some efficient and effective projects. I am so happy to be able to support them and hope that their example might be copied one day in more and more countries. The world's children are its future."

BBC Lifeline Appeal update
Jeremy Irons explained how the ABC Trust is dedicated to helping street children and young people at risk on Sunday 5th December and again on Wednesday 8th.
With £93,000 received so far from the BBC Lifeline Appeal, this has to be the fundraising coup of the year. More than 2000 people have generously given to the Trust in response to this one appeal. And with Gift Aid, even more can be claimed.
The number of regular donors has also substantially increased, making the appeal doubly effective.
There is no way to adequately express our heartfelt thanks to each and every donor, other than to say a huge thank you.
Please support the BBC's lifeline appeal in aid of the ABC Trust
ABC Trust supporters are encouraged to participate in all kinds of fundraising activities (anything they can think of!) so we can meet our BBC lifeline appeal target of £25,000 to help 14 local project partners in Brazil - helping around 1,000 children every week.
You can go to www.justgiving.com/abctrust/raisemoney and immediately set up your own special fundraising page – look out for the BBC LifeLine Appeal (under Official Events).
Every penny matters.
"We can do a lot here in Brazil with very little. The ABC Trust is making a big difference to projects in my country." Fernando Meirelles, Brazilian, Oscar-nominated Director of "City of God" and ABC Trust Patron.
Thank you.

24-hour samba marathon
On Friday 11th February 11 intrepid Samba Dancers undertook a 24-hour Samba Marathon in aid of the ABC Trust! Organiser Kirsty Harper says:
"The 24hr samba marathon started at 7pm at Cafe One Fairtrade in Birmingham. A total of 11 dancers were sponsored including our instructor Thomas O'Flaherty. Those who were unable to be present for the whole period covered shifts of four hours at a time. Friends and family were invited to join us.
"Sometimes we danced in unison, sometimes we danced alone but overall it was a bonding experience for many reasons: we had to work together to ensure that the dancing was continuous; by 5am we had given and received massages to soothe our aching legs and after 7pm on Saturday we sat down for a meal kindly prepared by Sam at Café One.
"We expect to have raised approximately £1000 for the ABC Trust."
We'd like to thank Kirsty, the bands and every one of the dancers (we hope your legs have recovered!) for this fantastic fundraiser.
If you have a fundraising idea, click here for more info, or contact us.
