101 donations
Over the next two years the ABC Trust wishes to raise £50,500 to finance new projects and support as many street children & those at risk as we possibly can.
This is why we are launching the ABC 101 DONATIONS and hope to recruit 101 new supporters each donating £500 to raise £50,500 for this appeal.
We know that £500 is a lot to ask from anyone, however as a UK taxpayer the cost of becoming one of the ABC 101 supporters is reduced to £391 (the remainder is made up with Gift Aid claimed by the ABC Trust from the Inland Revenue).
Furthermore, paying this in monthly installments over two years means a contribution of just £16.30 (or £20.84 if you're not a UK taxpayer) per month. If you aren't able to donate this much, even a few pounds a month will make a difference to a child's life.
The response to this appeal has so far been very encouraging. With more than 50 people now making regular monthly donations to the Trust as part of the '101 Donations' appeal, we are over halfway towards reaching our target figure.

Edu scores for ABC Trust
Arsenal midfielder Edu has displayed more than fancy footwork by agreeing to be a leading Patron of the Action for Brazil's Children (ABC) Trust, alongside Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Queen's Brian May.
The Gunners' Brazilian signing will be working with the Trust to raise awareness and funds for disadvantaged children and adolescents in Brazil by kicking off the ABC One Hundred Appeal to raise £50,000 and set up two new homes for street children.
Most excitingly, he has also committed to help organise a five-a-side charity football tournament next year with other star Brazilian football players. He is hoping to challenge other Premiership sides to take on a UK resident Brazilian team.
Edu, who has newly become a new father himself, says: "Many young kids and adolescents in Brazil live in terrible conditions, with minimal education, and zero training or opportunity. The ABC Trust fights these disadvantages by catering to basic needs, and running community based projects that give young people the chance to learn everything from IT to circus skills. I think their work is fantastic, and I'm delighted that I can lend my support."

Selfridges and ABC partnership
The big news for 2004 is that Selfridges have selected ABC to be their charity partner in their Brasil 40° campaign held in their Oxford Street store during May. Proceeds from events and performances held during the month will benefit ABC, plus we’ll have a shop window display and appeal fliers throughout the store.
For more information see: Selfridges – Ablaze with Passion at www.borkowski.co.uk or contact the ABC Trust office.
Jimena Page, Founder Trustee and chairperson of the charity had this to say about the partnership:
"To be chosen by such a prestigious and innovative store as their charity partner is a real honour for the ABC Trust. Selfridges Brasil 40° campaign is so timely and exciting for us as it will build on our recent rapid growth as a medium-sized charity. With both money and the charity's profile raised we'll then be able to provide more support to all our projects for homeless and impoverished children in Brazil. Thank you Selfridges. We hope Brasil 40° will be the great success it deserves to be!"
We'd like to see as many ABC supporters and friends as possible involved so in partnership with our sister charity the Task Brasil Trust we are launching a unique and amazing Raffle called the: Selfridges Brasil 40° Draw: Prizes include: Flights for Two to Salvador; Signed Gibson Guitar (signed by Jimmy Page and others); One week Brazilian Eco Tour; Your own portrait in oils by Joe Painter; signed DVDs, CDs, photographs... and much more.
Tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book of five. Please email your order to marianne@abctrust.org.uk stating whether it's a direct purchase or if you'd like to sell tickets to your friends and family.

jewellery – handmade by young people and staff at Projeto Renascer
One of ABC's newest projects based in Joao Pessoa – Projeto Renascer – is looking for partners in the UK to sell the jewellery made by the young people at Renascer. Can you help?
The project works with 150 children and young people at risk every day, providing literacy and training. At our office we have a range of the children's jewellery available – each pair of earrings is retailing at £1.99 and necklaces at £2.25.
The jewellery is made from coloured quartz, seeds, coconut shell, wood, bamboo, fired clay or coloured feathers. They would make an ideal gift! Because each is made from natural materials, every item is a little different! Please include postage of £1 when making an order.
All of the money is then given back to the project and the children to boost local incomes.
Contact us for more info.

St Joseph's R C Primary School
Here at the Admin & Fundraising Office, we do get donations from a variety of sources: grant-giving trusts, clubs, schools and individuals. We try very hard to thank the people and organisations who support our work in the favelas. Every now and again, we get a letter and donation that I think deserves a special mention.
We received a letter from Hannah Todd, of St Joseph's R C Primary School. The Year 5/6 Christmas play was themed around 'the real gift of Christmas'.
After the play had finished, four students walked around the auditorium collecting donations from the families in the audience. £106.75 was raised which we will ensure goes to help some of Brazil's poorest children.
Thank you to Hannah Todd, the staff and pupils of St Joseph's, and the families who gave so generously.

Riffathon 2003
Tommy Hubbard, age 14 from Whitby, won the 2003 Riffathon, which was a nationwide guitar competition in aid of Action For Brazil's Children Trust. The final was held at the University of Surrey on 20th December 2003.
Judged by rock legends Jimmy Page and Brian May the ten Riffathon finalists each performed a Led Zeppelin classic track with a full live band. Tommy's performance of 'Ramble On' won him the star prize of a 1958 re-issue Gibson Les Paul standard guitar, donated by Gibson Guitars (Custom Art and Historic division).
On announcing the winner Jimmy said, "I started the same way as everybody else here tonight. The one thing that came through for me is what six strings can do and that for each person who picks up a guitar their own identity and character shines through it. That's what has always amazed me about guitar playing. The standard has been fantastic."
Brian May said, "It was tough to come to a decision, we loved all the guys. There were a lot of Gibsons on this stage but they all sounded completely different."
Jimena Page said, "This has been a brilliant and unique event that has been exciting and creative and on top of which has raised much needed funds. Thank you for that."
The Riffathon runners up were:
2nd place – James Sedwards from London
3rd place – Michael Parker from Derbyshire
4th place – Michael McCullough from Lancashire
For more information visit: www.acm.ac.uk
If you would like to purchase any pictures from the Riffathon they are available at www.dannyclifford.com
ABC would like to thank everyone who made the Riffathon such a success including Academy of Contemporary Music, Gibson Guitars, Marshalls, Ernie Ball, Fender, MVC, University of Surrey, the Guitarist, Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques magazines.
