The son of composer
William Lloyd Webber, cellist Julian has collaborated
with many and varied musicians, including Yehudi Menuhin,
Georg Solti, and Elton John.
Julian was a student at the Royal College of Music
and completed his studies in Geneva with the renowned
French cellist, Pierre Fournier. Recent concert performances
include Michael Nyman's 'Double Concerto' for Cello
and Saxophone on BBC Television, Gavin Bryars's 'Concerto'
in Suntory Hall, Tokyo and Philip Glass's 'Concerto'
at the Beijing International Festival, all of which
were specially composed.
His most recent recording, 'Unexpected Songs', was
released in summer 2006. The album is a collection of
arrangements of songs from a number of composers, including
Nitin Sawhney, Schubert and Andrew Lloyd Webber. He
also writes an occasional column on music and musicians
for The Daily Telegraph.
Julian Lloyd Webber performed in a joint-fundraising
event for ABC and the Boys' Choir of Westminster Under
School tour to Brazil, and agreed to become a patron
in 2005.
