ABC believes in the potential of every child.  All they need is the right support.

Many children are trapped on the streets of Brazil – many are working so their families can get by, some are homeless and others simply have nothing else to do.  With little or no education, they are excluded from mainstream society and have few ways back.

We support projects which help children gain the education and skills they need to change their lives.  This could be learning to read and write, how to set-up and run a radio station, or even providing help in starting up a small business of their own. 

The projects we support emphasise the need for a rounded education: so literacy and learning practical skills is important but so is nurturing creativity and the desire to learn.

providing facilities and teachers

Avante Lençóis provides library facilities, arts workshops and leadership training; young people get the facilities and opportunities they crave to fulfil their potential.

Patronato combines basic schooling with sporting, cultural and artistic activities.  Two sessions are held each day, so that children can attend before or after normal school hours.

developing citizenship and social responsibility

Many of the projects emphasise the local context, building a sense of pride in communities and their histories.  Grãos de Luz teaches children the value of their unique surroundings, the Chapada Diamantina, and promotes cultural and environmental awareness.
