How We Work

With Brazil's position as the 13th most unequal country in the world, opportunities and support systems for children can be scarce. For many young people, this may lead to dropping out of school early, turning to petty trading, begging or prostitution to earn a living, or to support an alcohol or drug addiction.

Others, who have no home at all must face the dangers of sleeping on the streets; they find themselves increasingly excluded from their own communities with no way back.

ABC Trust supports a variety of locally-run projects across Brazil, which aim give these young people a second chance – helping them to transform their lives, and giving them hope for their futures. Many of our projects also work to prevent children turning to the streets in the first place.

By raising awareness and funding, ABC supports local organisations to take the lead in overcoming the problems of extreme poverty, abuse and lack of opportunity that affect so many young people across Brazil.

We have built up strong partnerships with community-led organisations which provide vital training, education and support for young people, and fire their imaginations and creativity through dance, film, drama, music and sport.

Whilst developing young people's self-awareness, pride and respect, ABC’s partner projects also work to promote positive change in the wider community, overcoming many of the problems which force children onto the street in the first place.

In partnership, in collaboration and in providing much needed financial support, ABC Trust remains one of the only international NGO’s working in Brazil.
